Anhui, in eastern China, is home to Gujinggong, one of China's most valuable baijiu brands. It is made in Gujing Town, near Bozhou, the hometown of the warlord and poet Cao Cao and of the legendary physician Hua Tuo. Its name means 'old well tribute liquor', and its story goes back more than 1,800 years, to the late Eastern Han dynasty, when alcohol was offered as tribute to the emperor.
Gujinggong
Anhui Gujing Distillery is one of China's eight historic famous liquor enterprises, and it was the first listed liquor company in China to issue both A and B shares. Its leading brand, Gujinggong, is a strong aroma baijiu made from a mash of sorghum, wheat and rice. In Brand Finance's 2025 ranking, Gujinggong was the eighth most valuable spirits brand in the world.
The group also owns Huanghelou and Laomingguang, and produces several aroma types, including strong, light and sauce aroma.
Cao Cao's hometown
Bozhou is the hometown of Cao Cao, the Han dynasty warlord and poet whose 'Short Song' (短歌行) contains one of the most famous lines about drink in Chinese: 'what can relieve my sorrow? Only Du Kang', Du Kang being the legendary inventor of alcohol.
