The dragon's decree
Longyu is Changyu's high-end estate in Ningxia. Its name, Long Yu (龙谕), can be roughly translated as 'dragon's decree', a hint at its ambitions. The estate sources grapes from 373 hectares of vineyards, selected from 27 plots in the Yinchuan and Qingtongxia sub-regions at the foot of the Helan Mountains.
A Byzantine château
Its winery, built in 2013 in a Byzantine style, is about 30 minutes by car from Yinchuan and has become one of the most popular wine destinations in Ningxia, with cellar tours, tastings and dining.
Cabernet in every colour
Longyu's range is built on Cabernet Sauvignon. Its most original wine is a white made from red grapes: a barrel-aged Cabernet Sauvignon blanc de noir. An earlier vintage of this wine, the 2018, sold under the Moser XV name, won a Gold medal with 95 points at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2019. Longyu also works with Northwest A&F University on research into Chinese yeast strains and Chinese oak.
Why it matters
Longyu wines are exported to around 50 countries and appear on the lists of restaurants in the Michelin and Black Pearl guides, making the estate one of China's best-known ambassadors abroad.
