A vineyard with a history
In the mid-1990s, Ningxia wine pioneer Wang Fengyu convinced a local farmer, Liu Zhongmin, to plant grapevines instead of fruit trees. In 1997 Liu planted about 10 hectares with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay. That vineyard is today the heart of Legacy Peak, run by his son, Liu Shi.
Behind famous names
The Legacy Peak vineyard has a special place in Ningxia's history. Helan Qingxue, Kanaan and Silver Heights all used its grapes at least once in their early years; Kanaan made its very first wine here. In this way, several of the wines that put Ningxia on the world map can trace part of their story to this single vineyard.
Today
Now Legacy Peak makes wine under its own name from vines that are among the oldest in the region. The name of its range, Legacy Peak 1246, plays on the Liu family name and other meanings dear to the family.
Why it matters
Legacy Peak is a living link to the beginnings of fine wine in Ningxia.
