Penglai’s new generation
Longting Vineyard is in Penglai, on the Shandong Peninsula, the most important wine area of China’s biggest wine province. Li Demei names it, with Chateau Junding, as the top producer among Penglai’s newer estates.
The setting
Penglai is where Changyu, founded in 1892, has its Tinlot estate and Koya brandy estate, and where Lafite built Long Dai. The sea keeps winters mild enough that vines are not buried, while rain, concentrated in summer, demands careful work in the vineyard.
