A Yanqi estate

Chateau Guofei is one of the wineries of the Yanqi Basin, on the southern side of the Tianshan. Li Demei, one of China’s leading wine experts, lists it among the producers to know in the basin, alongside Tiansai, Zhongfei and Xiangdu.

The setting

The Yanqi Basin lies at about 1,100 metres between the main and branch ranges of the Tianshan, moderated by Bosten Lake, with less than 80 mm of rain a year: conditions well suited to organic viticulture.

On the world stage

Guofei was among the Xinjiang estates presented together at ProWine Shanghai in 2023, part of a wider push to bring the region’s quality wines to the trade.

Style and philosophy

Dry reds from the high, arid Yanqi Basin.
