On the north side of the Tianshan

Tangtingxialu is in the Tianshan Mountain North sub-region, the vast northern foothills of the Tianshan in central Xinjiang. At about 44 degrees north, between 450 and 1,000 metres, with 110–200 mm of rain a year, it is China’s most northerly region for dry wines. Li Demei names it among the area’s producers to know, with Citic Niya and Chateau Changyu Baron Balboa.

The wines

The winery produces around 250,000 bottles a year in three ranges, Beiting, Yunxia and Zhaolu, which go from simple, approachable wines to more complex ones.

Style and philosophy
